A competitiveness cluster dedicated to sustainable materials and buildings
The Fibres-Energivie Competitiveness Cluster was established in 2015 with the merger of the Alsace-Energivie and Fibres Clusters. It is the only competitiveness cluster dedicated to materials for the construction industry. Focusing on the construction sector, it brings together all of the players in the value chain (from materials suppliers to integrators): chemical industry, materials, building design, constructive systems industry, energy facilities, building trades, building maintenance and property development promotion.
What is a competitiveness cluster?
The competitiveness clusters were set up in 2005 to develop the innovative capacity of economic players in order to stimulate growth and jobs in future growth sectors. A competitiveness cluster brings together small and large companies, research laboratories and educational and training establishments in a well defined area and on a given issue. The brief of this innovation network is to manage and organise the sectors, encourage the emergence and organise management of collaborative innovation projects, the quality of which is sanctioned by the Competitiveness Cluster label after being examined by a panel of experts. To do this, the competitiveness clusters have developed a huge range of services and events in the service of their members.
How does it work?
Innovation is a competitiveness lever for industry. Therefore, the competitiveness cluster supports people who initiate innovation (companies, research centres…) in the emergence and setting up of R&D projects of a collaborative nature. By joining the Cluster, members enjoy resources to guarantee their projects the best chances of success and find funding.
The members network is also one of the foundations of the Cluster. Boasting 270 members, the Cluster provides various tools and actions to facilitate the sharing of experience, contact, the spotting of opportunities and the visibility of its members, whether in France or overseas, thanks to:
- A huge events schedule: RezO after-work meetings, BtoB meetings, symposia, techno-dating, conferences, information meetings, international missions…
- An intranet system named "RezO" that allows members to exchange ideas
- Widespread media and non-media communication (drafting of articles and advertorials), labels endorsing projects and demonstration buildings…
The Cluster has also developed a range of services specific to the construction industry market, such as project management support, technical evaluation support, a Demonstration Building label and a digital modelling hub (BIM).
In his own words:
« When you innovate, the speed of development is a strategic issue… To accelerate the innovation time and open any technological locks, it is necessary to go and look elsewhere for different skill sets, acquire fresh expertise. And that is exactly the point of the innovation networks that go to make up the competitiveness clusters: they make it possible to target the right skill sets with the most relevant business partners. » Laurent Bédel, MD at PlastiFibre.
ID Card

Governance
The Executive Board is the Cluster's main governing body. Composed of companies and representatives from research/training in the sectors targeted by the Cluster, it meets every two months to decide on actions that best serve its strategy. Those actions are then put into practice by the Cluster's team.
